India: An Assault on Your Senses and Sensibilities

By Tom Hansen

India will assault all five senses and your sensibilities. It is the home of four religions (Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, and Sikhism). I witnessed many beautiful things (architecture, scenery, animals, and colors) and many dark subjects (poverty, the caste system, roadside prostitution, and Acid Attack Victims).

Like many others, my travel plans have been dashed in 2020. I have spent the year primarily taking pictures of flowers in my yard and improving my post-processing skills. I chose to re-visit my 2017 India photographs which were taken early in my learning process and with less powerful equipment. I was able to apply my improved post-processing skills to a set images that tell a story and provide a viewpoint on India. After two weeks, my wife and I reached a level of peace with India. I am glad I went. The trip was a photographer’s paradise, but I am not sure that I would go back.
