Peggy Muir, who has led classes on the US Constitution and the Declaration of Independence at the Center joins us for a discussion of the relevance and challenges of these founding documents and the burdens they carry as “sacred” texts. Peggy is a retired US History and American Studies teacher at the high school level and anthropology at the college level.

The City of Bainbridge Island is offering a paid public art opportunity for poets. This artist call invites poets to submit a portfolio of their work for review. Up to ten poets will be selected based on their submission packet to create an original poem (with a small honorarium) that will reflect creativity, diversity, and a strong sense of place. In the end, four poems will be chosen, with each selected poet receiving a $500 honorarium). The final poems will be displayed at city hall.

The theme of Jane Herzog’s exhibit is a comparison between the architecture of the Seattle Central Library—a deconstructivist building designed by Rem Koolhaas featuring a diamond-shaped glass and steel facade with five platforms—and the flagship branch of the New York Public Library a Beaux-Arts landmark, known for its grand architecture, research collections, and iconic marble lions.

This year Bainbridge Island Photo Club again participated in the Kitsap County Ars Poetica event to celebrate National Poetry Month. For Ars Poetica, local poets submit works for the event. Judges select which poems will be featured. Local artists chose from the selected poems to interpret via visual arts, including paintings or photographs. This is the second of a two-part series.

Everyone deserves to understand the high-tech world that we live in, and one thing we all have to live with is online account IDs and Passwords. Many of us are frustrated or can’t keep track of all those critical pieces of information, and on top of that, we may be required to change them periodically. We may also forget the password and have to get it reset, then have to think up a new complex password. Now there is a new way to get online. Passkeys are replacing passwords, slowly, and they are safer and so much more convenient; and best of all, you don’t have to remember them.
