The theme of Jane Herzog’s exhibit is a comparison between the architecture of the Seattle Central Library—a deconstructivist building designed by Rem Koolhaas featuring a diamond-shaped glass and steel facade with five platforms—and the flagship branch of the New York Public Library a Beaux-Arts landmark, known for its grand architecture, research collections, and iconic marble lions.

John Chen gives an overview of two-factor authentication beyond text messaging. Everyone deserves to understand the high-tech world that we live in, and one thing we all have to live with is online account IDs and Passwords. Many of us are frustrated or can’t keep track of all those critical pieces of information, and on top of that, we may be required to change them periodically. We may also forget the password and have to get it reset, then have to think up a new complex password. Now there is a new way to get online. Passkeys are replacing passwords, slowly, and they are safer and so much more convenient; and best of all, you don’t have to remember them.
This session provides an overview of Passkeys and how to start using them.

Often users buy a new phone with insufficient memory. Since internal memory cannot be added later, many users will run out of memory during the life of the phone. We review:
different ways to reduce your memory usage on your phone or tablet.
how to make better use of the phone memory you do have left.
Other topics for easier viewing and searching will include:
neat ways to insert tags in your Apple Notes.
more ways to organize your photos using your iPhone and Mac.

As we keep more and more of our information and details of our daily lives on devices, the more difficult it is to find anything on the devices. This month we will look at some other ways to find things, such as in Photos, Calendar events, Notes, and Files, and what you can do to organize them.

John Chen's monthly technology session focuses on searching, setting up 'smart mail,' new text messaging features, how to extract an object from photos and more.

In this month's get-together, John Chen explains why passwords are so important to your digital life, and how to set up a method to recover them, what you need to do before you sell, trade, or dispose of your phone, and what to do when you buy a new iPhone.
