Come walk with me as we explore some of Washington’s Northern Coastal Beaches.

By Dawn Bockus

The Northern beaches are often hidden gems that are bounded on both ends by rugged headlands that extend out into the sea.

Walking is the only means to investigate their beauty and uniqueness.

The ebb and flow of the tide along with the ever- present waves are the brushes that paint and sculp the palette of the beach.

Each tide cycle brings with it new textures and deposits to be examined as possible paintings for my camera to capture. Will it be new tangles of kelp and seaweed, ripples in the sand or some log covered with unknown surprises.

Big storms and high tides wear away the sandstone that lines part of many beaches. The sandstone is sculptured into many interesting shapes. So fun to explore.
