From Chicken to Eagle
From Chicken to Eagle: Seven Women Paddling Whitewater and Navigating Life
Forty-five years ago, a group of seven women took on the challenge posed by Canoe Magazine: “where are the women in white-water canoeing?” Paddling from Chicken on the Fortymile River in Alaska to its confluence with the Yukon River, and then downstream to the village of Eagle, Alaska, during their ten-day trip the women encountered conditions that were unexpected (a river at flood level in August) and that tested their paddling and survival skills. Each of the women became a pathbreaker in her life in a variety of fields. At their forty-year reunion, the group decided to write a book about their lives before and after the expedition as well as how the trip influenced choices in their lives. Come and hear from the group about the expedition and its impact on their lives at a special appearance at the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center on Tuesday, June 11 at 6 pm.
